The Gemstones will return for more familial and spiritual drama, it is official. The Righteous Gemstones, an award-winning original comedy series on HBO, has just received a fourth season renewal. The announcement comes a few days before Season 3 wraps up, with the season finale episode airing this weekend on June 30.
The third season of the religious parody revolves on Jesse, Kelvin, and Judy Gemstone as they attempt to usurp their father’s leadership of his megachurch.
But they quickly discover that their newly assumed leadership duties are significantly more difficult than they had anticipated, and that their opulent lifestyle has important repercussions.
The third season of the popular show has been the best so far, and it is expected to have the highest viewership since the first season’s August 2019 debut.
HBO reports that Season 3 episodes have an average of 4.9 million viewers, with more data available. The Season has surpassed Eastbound and Down and Vice Principals, which throughout their runs averaged 4.2 million viewers and 4.8 million viewers, respectively, as the most watched HBO series by creator and actor Danny McBride.
“Get ready for more of The Righteous Gemstones, the humorous adrenaline rush. Sunday night marks the conclusion of this genuinely biblical season, said Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO programming and head of the HBO and Max comedy series.
I’m excited to say that a fourth season has been picked up. HBO did not say when Season 4 would broadcast, but it is unlikely to happen soon given that Season 4 filming won’t start until the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have been resolved and writers’ and actors’ concerns have been addressed.
The Cast of Righteous Gemstones Season 4
The Righteous Gemstones has benefited from having a cast that is truly exceptional and who consistently excel in their parts. The aforementioned Gemstone children are portrayed by McBride, Edi Patterson, and Adam Devine, and Dr. Eli Gemstone, the patriarch of the Gemstone family and the senior pastor of the Gemstone Salvation Center, is portrayed by John Goodman.
Cassidy Freeman plays Amber Gemstone, Tim Baltz plays BJ, Tony Cavalero plays Keefe Chambers, Greg Alan Williams plays Martin Imari, Skyler Gisondo plays Gideon Gemstone, Walton Goggins plays Baby Billy Freeman, and Jennifer Nettles plays Aimee-Leigh Gemstone, among many other actors, round out the cast.
For The Righteous Gemstones, McBride not only stars but also serves as the film’s director, working closely with Jody Hill and David Gordon Green, two of his regular associates. As executive producers, the group collaborates with John Carcieri, Jeff Fradley, and Brandon James. David Brightbill plays the part of producer, with Jonathan Watson serving as co-executive producer. As consulting producers, Chris Pappas, Edi Patterson, and Kevin Barnett each make a contribution.
HBO offers Righteous Gemstones in its entirety as a streaming option. The Season 3 finale aired on July 30.
