Throughout the 1950s, eight of his compositions appeared on the Billboard Hot 40. In 1955, he released his first full-length album titled ‘Cloud 7’. In 1957, he released the acclaimed and popular album ‘The Beat of My Heart’.

Bennett developed a substance addiction in the 1970s. After almost overdosing, he summoned his son for assistance. Son, himself a musician, resolved to become his father’s manager. He arranged numerous excursions for his father. Bennett joined with Columbia Records in 1986 and released ‘The Art of Excellence’ that same year.
In 2011, Bennett released ‘Duets II,’ a collection of jazz standards performed with Aretha Franklin, Lady Gaga, and Amy Winehouse. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. This made Bennett the oldest artist still living to attain that point.
