Are Carmy and Claire Splitting Up?

She departs with a broken heart, and her last words to Carmy strongly imply that she cannot continue their relationship. Even though it is not stated explicitly, it appears that Carmy and Claire’s relationship has deteriorated due to Carmy’s intricate self-identity issues.
The moment is made more devastating by Carmy’s admission earlier in the season that Claire provides him with greater life clarity.

Examining Carmy’s development throughout the season as he attempts to mature by devoting more responsibility reveals the parallels between him and Donna.
However, a guilty Carmy collapses at the first sign of disorder and reverts to his former self. Even though a technician sawed open the freezer’s door, the series finale concludes without Carmy’s escape.
Carmy’s position in the freezer can be interpreted as a metaphor for his position in purgatory.
