Here are the spoilers for Wednesday.
Given that Wednesday has more viewers on Netflix than Stranger Things, it’s no surprise that audiences are eager for a second season.
In 2023, if you’ve been anywhere near TikTok (or a 14-year-old), you’ll be singing “Gonna dance-dance-dance with my hands-hands-hands above my head-head-head” and swinging your arms around regardless of whether or not the Lady Gaga song is really in the performance.
Of course, there’s much more to Wednesday than just a viral dance craze. There’s also the fact that Tim Burton has returned to television after two decades of dwindling big-screen results, and that star Jenna Ortega has gone from child actor and promising supporting role (in films like Scream and You) to bona fide international screen idol.
As promised, Wednesday serves us a heaping amount of the bizarre and fantastic, along with some chic monochromatic styles, as it delves into the mind of the Addams family’s most enigmatic member in her search for the perpetrators of the violence in Jericho.
After the season one end, we, like Wednesday, began digging for information concerning the show’s continuation.
As the first season came to a close, Wednesday served up a couple of shocks that left viewers wondering who sent the cryptic text message. Another season would be the logical fix, but would there be any more?
This is everything we know about the upcoming second season of Wednesday.
Wednesday Season 2: When’s it Back?
Hallelujah! After ten weeks of agonizing anticipation, Netflix has verified that a second season is forthcoming.
On January 6, 2023, Netflix released a video in which Jenna Ortega as Wednesday says: “Over the past few weeks, I’ve been stalked, haunted, and imitated millions of times on the internet. It has been sheer torment. Thank you very much.”
At the time, there were no details beyond the announcement of season two, but since then, there have been some developments. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas verified the show’s return to Netflix before the end of 2023 during their June visit to the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix.
Michael told Martin Brundle during his Sky Sports F1 grid walk that while he is currently taking a break from acting, “Catherine starts on the second season of Wednesday — that’s this fall” and “it’s expected to be on Netflix by the end of the year.” Thus, we cannot be more precise than late 2023 right now.
In a previous interview with Netflix’s TUDUM, Wednesday co-creator Miles Millar stated, “It’s been an incredible experience to create a show that has resonated with people all over the globe. Excited to continue the tortuous voyage of Wednesday into its second season.
We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season of Nevermore and explore its bizarre, spooky universe. Just need to ensure that Wednesday hasn’t drained the pool before we do.”
Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s president of US & Canada scripted series, commented on the show’s popularity: “It’s encouraging and exciting to see how much engagement there is.”
“The extent to which people desire not only to visit Netflix, but also to complete these shows and then discuss them. Engagement. This is what we are focusing our efforts on.”
He continued, “It’s not just the dance; people are dressing up and purchasing makeup to resemble Wednesday Addams.” For me, the resurgence is something that has existed in culture for a long time, but never to this extent. We wish to investigate and comprehend why this is such a widespread phenomenon.”
Prior to the official announcement, there was considerable speculation regarding the second season of Wednesday. Following Amazon’s merger with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), the production company that produces Wednesday for Netflix, there were rumors that the second season would not air on Netflix, but rather on Prime Video.
Who Will Be Returning For the Season 2 Premiere?
It is inconceivable that Wednesday and Thing will not return for the second season, so it comes as no surprise that Ortega will reprise her role as part of the announcement.
Wednesday’s potential romantic interest Xavier Thorpe, portrayed by Percy Hynes White, will likely return for season two. Having been rejected but not forgotten, Xavier may have a chance now that Tyler is no longer in the picture.
Or is he not? The last time we saw Wednesday’s sort-of-boyfriend-turned-villain, he was detained, but something tells us that the guttural growl he let out at the conclusion of the first season could lead to an escape. If so, we fully anticipate that Hunter Doohan will return to his Hyde persona for season two.
Catherine Zeta-Jones affirmed her return as Morticia Addams in June, and we expect the following to round out the season two cast of Wednesday:
• Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair
• Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay
• George Farmer as Ajax Pertropolus
• Naomi J Ogawa as Yoko Tanaka
• Jamie McShane as Sheriff Donovan Galpin
• Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams
• Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams
• Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester
What Will Wednesday Season 2 Consist of?
The show’s creators have promised that the series will investigate an abundance of compelling narratives. In a November 2022 interview with TVLine, co-showrunner Millar stated, “We felt like we barely scratched the surface with those characters, and the actors are so phenomenal in those roles.
Catherine is, in my opinion, a Morticia icon. Wednesday and Morticia’s relationship is essential to the show, as is the notion that Wednesday is attempting to forge her own course outside the family.
